Former high school English teacher and Samford University adjunct steps into interim leadership role

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Oct. 2, 2026 – The Literacy Council of Central Alabama has named Lori Graphos interim executive director. Graphos, who joined the organization in February 2026 as operations coordinator, brings 18 years of classroom experience and a longstanding passion for literacy to the role.

Graphos succeeds Dr. Bryan Johnson, who helped strengthen the organization and expand its programming during his time at The Literacy Council. A gifted grant writer, Johnson also brought new financial opportunities to the organization.

“TLC is better because of his leadership and time here,” Graphos said.

Her experience also includes teaching reading intervention classes and helping preschool students develop early reading skills.

“Literacy is a cause I have always been passionate about,” Graphos said. “When I left the classroom and was offered the opportunity to work at TLC as operations coordinator, I was thrilled to do so.”
